Aunt Landa Bethel Foundation’s Mission to Combat Gender-Based Violence and Promote Education

Established 12 years ago, Aunt Landa Bethel Foundation has been on the forefront in the war against sexual and gender-based violence. Reflecting on the milestone of it’s 12th anniversary celebrated last month, the foundation acknowledges the significant strides made in advancing gender equality, seeking justice, and empowering survivors across communities in all 36 states of Nigeria and beyond.

Dr. Yolanda N. George David, the servant-in-charge of Aunt Landa Bethel Foundation expressed that, “Under the theme of Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders, Transforming Communities, the foundation is poised to address critical societal challenges and foster positive change across Nigerian communities. Amidst societal barriers hindering girls’ educational pursuits, including pregnancy and cultural norms, the foundation advocates for girls’ education, empowerment, and reproductive health education. Through partnerships with local communities and educational institutions, the foundation aims to create an enabling environment for girls to thrive and fulfill their aspirations.”

On re-orientation of the Boy Child in response to escalating rates of crime, violence, and substance abuse, the foundation aims to embark on a re-education and empowerment campaign targeted at young men. Recognizing their significant role in perpetuating sexual and gender-based violence, the foundation underscores the importance of reshaping attitudes and behaviors to promote gender equality and respect. Speaking on Combatting Substance Abuse she explained that, “With substance abuse posing a pervasive threat to communities, particularly among youths, the foundation plans to launch awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programs, and support services for victims and their families.”

The success of her missions, projects and initiatives has been possible this far with the continuing her support system she has which comprises of individuals who have served behind the scene and demonstrated unwavering dedication and advocacy in promoting gender equality and supporting survivors, including notable figures such as Ex-Lagos State First Lady, Dame Abimbola Fashola, Rev. Paul Chikwem, Ngozi Ekeoma of NEPAL Groups, Oladotun Ojuolape A.K.A Do2tun, Bose Ogunboye A.K.A Lepacious Bose, Efe Nathan, Toyin Lawani of Tiannah’s Empire, Toolz, Timi Dakolo, Ufuoma McDermott and others.

Accompanying the foundation’s ambitious plans are several inspiring success stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed through its interventions. From empowering widows to rescuing abused children and providing refuge for victims of domestic violence, the foundation’s impact is far-reaching and profound.
