Gifted saxophonist Koye Adeniyi, better known as KoyeSax, has unveiled his latest single, “To the Roots,” to widespread acclaim. This mesmerizing track, the second release from KoyeSax’s forthcoming debut EP, “Young and Vibrant,” delivers a timeless message accompanied by infectious rhythms and heartfelt musical excellence, capturing the essence of drawing strength from African heritage.
In discussing the inspiration behind “To the Roots,” KoyeSax shared, “Transitioning from a regular musician to an artiste, I began reflecting on what drives me, particularly as an African. It occurred to me that my message has always been about showcasing Africa for its rich and diverse music and culture.” He continued, “To transmit this message, I drew inspiration from trailblazers like Fela, Lagbaja, Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, as well as prominent figures in various industries like Dr. Wole Soyinka, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina. ‘To the Roots’ is a tribute to them and the many trailblazers among us.”
Emphasizing the significance of the message behind “To the Roots,” KoyeSax stated, “The song delivers a timeless message of drawing strength from our heritage, coupled with infectious rhythms and heartfelt musical excellence.” He added, “Influenced by legends like Lagbaja and Fela, I strive to infuse their impact into my sound, blending smooth saxophone melodies with Afrobeats and Jazz elements. By combining these genres, the song celebrates Africa’s rich cultural heritage and reinforces the message of cultural pride and identity.”
