Lagos PDP Chairman Kidnapped, N200m Ransom Demanded

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Philip Aivoji, was yesterday kidnapped by dare-devil gunmen along the Lagos /Ibadan Expressway while returning from the party’s South-West Zonal meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Already, the kidnappers have contacted the family for N200 million ransom.

As at the time of this report, it was not clear if he is the only one abducted but the Governorship candidate of Lagos PDP in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Abdul-Azeez  Adediran, has expressed shock over the news of the kidnapping of the party chairman along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway yesterday.

Adediran described the incident as a disturbing dimension to the growing insecurity in the country, especially in the South-west. He blamed the trend on the failure of government in the area of security, even as he stressed that this has put the lives of the citizens in grave danger. 

He demanded urgent action from the security agencies to facilitate immediate release of the abducted party chairman.

He also advised that the regional local security outfit, Amotekun should collaborate with the police in this rescue mission.

Adediran prayed for divine intervention as he enjoined the party faithful not to despair but

to keep praying for the speedy release of the kidnapped chairman and others.
