Hearing in three appeals challenging the affirmation of the election of President Bola Tinubu commenced on Monday at the Supreme Court.

The appeals include that of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Labour Party (LP) candidate, Mr Peter Obi, and the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

However, when the court convened, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, was absent; so also was the second most senior Justice, Musa Datijo, who is due for retirement on Friday and Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Sources had said that both the CJN and Kekere-Ekun had recused themselves from the proceedings on grounds of conflict of interest.

Accordingly, the proceedings is being presided by John Inyang Okoro, with others, who included Uwani Musa Abba Aji, Mohammed Garba, Ibrahim Saulawa, Adamu Jauro, Abubakar Tijjani and Emmanuel Agim.
