One of Nigeria’s most accomplished technocrats, Professor Emmanuel Edozien, clocked 80 recently. Trust his kids, especially the trio of Sandra Solebo, Linda Edozien-Priddy and Vivian Edozien, they didn’t let the day go quietly as their dad would have preferred. They practically dragged him out of his shells.
Harnessing their contacts and connections and cash, the beautiful sisters put together a jaw-dropping 80th birthday celebration for their dad at the Ballroom of the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was a roll call of who is who in the society. The graceful octogenarian, wearing a well-cut tuxedo, glowed and grinned as he took in the merriment. All his grand kids and sons-in-law, associates and relatives were equally present to felicitate with him. The ceremony proper was preceded by a thanksgiving service at the Edozien’s family church. An accomplished professor of International & Development Economics, boardroom guru, administrator, philanthropist and the Ojiba of Asaba, Professor Edozien was Economic Adviser to President Shehu Shagari and adviser to successive Nigerian presidents until his 80th birthday crept in on him.
