Air Force Vows to Ensure Calm in N’Delta

  • Dickson urges monarchs to ensure peace

The Nigerian Air force monday vowed to ensure that the relative peace currently enjoyed in the Niger Delta is improved upon by its operatives.

Air vice Marshal Steven Onuh, the newly posted Air Officer Commanding, Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air Force, Bayelsa State, who spoke when he visited Governor Seriake Dickson, stated that the force would carry out its duties diligently.

He assured of the air force’s non-partisan approach to its operations in the region, noting that all activities would be carried out “in good faith”.

The Air Officer Commanding said the purpose of the visit was to inform Governor Dickson of his posting to the command, noting that ensuring peace in the Niger Delta would remain his major priority.
He expressed the determination of his command to “collaborate with other security agencies to enforce law and order in the state as well as defend democracy in the country”

In his comments, Mr Dickson commended the Nigerian Air Force for their gallant efforts at protecting the territorial integrity of the nation and partnering the state government in the maintenance of law and order.
Describing the new AOC as a thorough and professional officer, whose track record speaks volume of his competence, Dickson expressed confidence that the command under the leadership of AVM Onuh would record greater achievements.
He noted that the strategic investments already made by the Nigerian Air Force would enhance the operational capability of its personnel in combating crime and emergencies.

While assuring the Mobility Command of his administration’s continued support towards sustaining the existing peace, the governor reiterated government’s policy of zero tolerance for criminal activities in the state.

Meanwhile the governor has called on monarchs in the state to work with the government to ensure peace in their various domains.

Dickson spoke in Toru Orua, his hometown during the activities marking the presentation of staff of office and certificate of recognition to the Pere of Tarakiri Kingdom, King Richardford Orukarebai Koroye.
At the event, Governor Dickson reaffirmed the government’s resolve to accord the traditional institution its pride of place in the scheme of things to enable it maintain peace and stability in the communities across the State.
He called on the Pere of Tarakiri Kingdom to work closely with other monarchs in the state towards ensuring stability in their various domains.

“The government is collaborating with the state House of Assembly to ensure the speedy passage of the Community Administration Bill. It is essential to give legal backing to the authority and responsibility of the traditional institution”, the governor said.

Chairman of the state traditional Rulers’ Council, King Alfred Diete Spiff, who is also the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass and his Rivers State counterpart, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja and Amanyanabo of Opobo, congratulated Governor Dickson and King Koroye on the occasion.

They underscored the need for all royal fathers to collaborate and seek ways of addressing the challenges facing their various kingdoms, particularly in the area of maintaining peace in their domains.
Responding, the Pere of Tarakiri Kingdom, King Koroye,_assured that he and his council of chiefs would strive to continue to uphold the legacies of the Tarakiri Kingdom.
