Police Arrest Ondo Varsity Student for Allegedly Killing Female Co-student

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a final year student of the state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Olubodun Sanni, for allegedly killing his co-student, Miss IfeOluwa Adekunle.

Miss Ifeoluwa, 20, a 300-level student of AAUA, was recently found dead in her room in a house outside the university campus, causing panic among the students of the university, particularly female students.

However, the new state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, while parading the suspects alongside three others arrested for various criminal offences at the Command’s headquarters in Akure, said the suspect, in his confessional statement, explained how he entered the deceased room, stabbed her on the chest with knife and stole her iPhone.

According to him, “On February 2, 2024, a case of suspected murder was reported at the Police State that one Adekunle Adebisi Ifeoluwa, 20, a 300level student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko was found in a pool of blood at her off-campus hostel and was rushed to the university health centre and later referred to a Specialist Hospital in Ikare Akoko where she was confirmed dead.

“In the course of investigation, the police discovered that the deceased phone was missing. The police, through the use of modern technology, traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni, 21, a final year student of the same school, who is also a neighbour to the deceased in the hostel.

“The recovered phone led to further questioning of the suspect who gave details of what happened in his confessional statement, how he entered the deceased room, stabbed her on the chest with knife and he stole her iPhone XR.”

The CP, who said the Command, within few days of his arrival, has had its fair share of security related challenges and his men have been able to crack some of them via intelligence-led policing, stressed that the Command under his watch will not allow criminals to use the state as a hiding place.

He said: “On January 2, one Umar Ibrahim, 20, asked one Mohammadu Adamu of Fulani Camp in Akunnu area to use his father’s motorcycle to drop him at Ogali via Kogi State. While on the way at a bush part, the pillion, Ibrahim killed Mohammadu Adamu with a machete and went back to Akunnu.

“The suspect was later arrested by police operatives, and the phone of the deceased was also recovered from him. The suspect in his confessional statement claimed that he killed Adamu when he noticed that he and one Basiru had plans to kidnap and kill him. The stated that the Bashiru mentioned above is currently at large while effort is being made to find him.

He said the Command also arrested a 24-year-old Adeyeye Salisu for robbery in Oriya Isuada via Owo.

According to him, “On January 24, 2024, at about 2045hrs, a four-man gang of robbers attacked a lady, Mrs. Miracle, and Mr. Mustapha at Oriya Isuada via Owo and robbed them of items worth N1.5million. Through intelligence gathering, the police arrested one Adeyeye Salisu 24.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to be one of the robbers who carried out the attack and mentioned names of others who participated in the robbery.

“On January 20, 2024, at about 1200hrs, the police got the information that one Arogundade Damilola, 20, was seen with an object suspected to be a gun. Police personnel from Iwaro Division swung into action and arrested the suspect. During interrogation, the suspect claimed he stole the gun and 20 lives ammunition from the ceiling of a house he burgled at Ogangan and affirmed that he is a burglar around Akingbade axis.

He added that all the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
