Ex- Kaduna Governor Dumps PDP

A former governor of Kaduna state, Mukhtar Yero, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former governor announced his resignation in a letter dated September 30, 2023, and addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Kaura ward, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

The resignation came barely two days after the governorship election tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and its candidate in the March 2023 governorship election, challenging the victory of Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yero’s resignation letter reads:

“With gratitude to almighty Allah, I write to extend my sincere greetings and to formally inform you of my decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“In view of this, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of PDP with effect from 30th September 2023.

“Enclosed herewith, is my party membership card dully returned.”

The former governor did not give any reason for leaving the party and did not indicate whether he intends to join another political party.

Yero served as deputy governor under the administration of the late Patrick Yakowa.

He became the governor following Yakowa’s death in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa. Yero was the candidate of the PDP in the 2015 elections, but was defeated by former governor Nasir El-Rufai.
