Police Raid Human Traffickers’ Hideout, Rescue Seven Victims in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has raided a suspected human traffickers’ hideout in Yankara Village of Mai’Adua Local Government Area of the state and rescued seven victims.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, in a statement issued to journalists in Katsina yesterday, said the rescued victims were from Abia, Ondo, Niger, Delta and Oyo states.

He explained that the victims, who were on their way from Nigeria to Libya, were rescued by operatives of the command after raiding their hideout in the village.

He said: “On 20/01/2022 at about 1120hrs, based on credible intelligence, the Command raided a criminal hideout at Yankara village, Koza District, Mai’adua LGA of Katsina State and rescued seven victims of human trafficking hiding in the house.

“In the course of investigation, the victims stated that they were brought to the village by their agent, who on sighting the police team, took to his heels and escaped with their GSM phones.

“They further stated that they are on their route from Nigeria to Libya through the Niger Republic border and investigation is ongoing.”

Isah added that the victims will be handed over to the Kano office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and arrest of the traffickers.
