Well Deserved: Olubadan Honours Wole Arisekola with Chieftaincy Title

HIGHLIFE

These are the best days for notable journalist, publisher of Ireland-based journal, The Street Journal, and happy businessman, Bowale Oluwole Arisekola. Following the traditions of the land in recognising its most active and valued sons, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso, conferred on Arisekola the title of Mogaji Ajenigi-Eye of Yemetu-Oje, Ibadan.

The installation ceremony was held at the palace of the Olubadan in Popo Yemoja, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday, November 22, 2021. Besides being fired up at the thought of getting a new position from which he can better serve his people, Arisekola was also distinctly excited over the fact that the title corresponds to his fixation on improving a lot of Ibadan indigenes, whether they be underprivileged or otherwise.

Arisekola was not left to celebrate the appointment alone. Apart from a few others who were also assigned chieftaincy titles, Arisekola was joined by some of the most respectable characters in the country. These include Honourable Sina Alabi, Alhaji Tunde Ologburo, Seun Fakorede (the Oyo State Commissioner of Youth and Sports), Prince Eniola Oyeyode Oyesosin, Mogaji Adekunle Kare, and several others.

In response to the appointment, Arisekola did not become overconfident or complacent. Instead, he thanked his monarch, the Olubadan, for the privilege to serve in a higher capacity. He stated that the promotion is evidence that his commitment to the community—and the accompanying—is not wasted. Convinced that his path is true and impactful, Arisekola promised to do more.

In his own words, “This is just the beginning of greater things to come to my family and Ibadan land. My plan is to consult around to know what my people lack which I’ve already been doing through my foundation by supporting Ibadan indigenes, widows and the less privileged in society.”

Indeed, Arisekola has not spared any effort in supporting his people. In fact, some reports claim that he commits a sizable fraction of the proceeds from his media businesses, especially, to this cause. If such a person is not deserving of a top chieftaincy title in his hometown, who is?
