June 12: Forum Naija Calls for Entries to Aid Financial Support

In commemoration of the June 12 Democracy Day, a social networking tool, Forum Naija has commenced registration for its 2021 essay competition, as entries are open until Wednesday June 30 this year.

The maiden edition of the contest, which opened registration portals on Saturday June 12, call participants to submit their not-more-than 400 word count essay for or against the motion, “Social media a blessing to democracy”.

The first, second and third runnerups will go home with N100,000, N50,000, and N25,000 respectively. These top three contestants are eligible to earn a “commentator’s contract” with Forum Naija where they will rewarded up to N100,000 every month for their opinion.

More so, 10 other participants stand a chance to win N10,000 each based on engagements and creativity on June 30. All you have to do is enter into the essay competition.

Applicants are urged to submit an entry by registering an account on forumnaija website. “Make sure you verify your account. Go to the blog section and create a post. If you are in support that “social media is a blessing to democracy”, then make “social media is a blessing to democracy” the title of your blog post.

Otherwise, participants are implored to use “social media is a curse to democracy” as your title. Publish your post and share to other platforms.

According to Forum Naija management, winners will be selected based on the engagement their entry generates. The popularity of their post (aggregate of like and replies) is the condition for victory.

As noted in the press release, there are terms and conditions. “Simply concentrate on editing the text. This has lead led to the ban on Twitter.

“Forum Naija is a social networking tool that empowers its users with a platform to share their thoughts, engage other platform users in conversations on new events, cultivate a following through their personal blogs, reconnect with groups, and share private messages among others.”

As hinted, Forum Naija described social media as one of the most significant inventions of the 21st century. Never in the history of our specie has an individual been afforded the privilege to connect and communicate with virtually anyone across the globe, irrespective of real life status.

“Lost connections between friends and families have been restored, talents from obscure ends of the planet are exposed, crimes are adverted, criminals apprehended, and people in desperate situations have found help in this global human community, fostered through social media platforms. Yet there are two sides to every story.”

The management further decried how the average attention span has suffered tremendously in the last two decades. “We have witnessed a rise in the: isolation, depression and even suicide amongst heavy social media users, especially young people.”

Hence, the purpose of the platform, it added, is to provide an enabling environment for Nigerians everywhere to engage in civilised discussions on critical and trivial matters relating to the Nigerian experience.
