DP Foundation Celebrates Children’s Day

The Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial (DOAM) Foundation , recently commemorated the 2021 Children’s, day celebration for pupils of St. Saviour’s Anglican Primary School, Ijoko, Ogun State, aimed at creating awareness on various experiences and alleviating their worries which may arise from abuse,

The foundation since inception, has carried out a similar programme to celebrate with children especially those from less privileged background and whose parents are not able to meet their school needs.

The programme which witnessed various quiz competitions in Mathematics, English, current affairs and phoneme was anchored by its teachers.

Gifts such as food flask, water bottles, notebooks, branded shirts, caps, pencils and biros, snacks and drinks, sponsored by Rite Foods Limited, Niger Biscuit Co Limited, Seven-Up Bottling Company, among others, were presented to winners of the competition, as well as other pupils.

Speaking at the programme recently, the foundation’s Team Lead, Ms. Adaeze Anyanna noted that the move was to promote education across the country, especially among the less privileged in the society.

She stressed that more emphasis has to be placed on children from low income households in the country through strategic surveys to capture those in need and their rights protected.

‘We still need to lay more emphasis on children from low income. DOAM from inception has this soft spot for the indigent; so we are very interested in people that are from less privileged homes. We do surveys and ensure that our programmes are tailor-made interventions that will ensure that pupils need what they are given.

“We did a study on this school and found out that most of them are from low income families, meaning that most of their parents are either petty traders or security guards and have never been celebrated like this. This school has never seen this kind of programme brought to their school, so we saw the need to make them feel loved and appreciated.”

The Educational Programme Coordinator, Ms. Fatima Akinsode said: “we are very conscious about our impacts and have touched over 85,000 lives in the east, west and south region of the country.

“During our programmes, we do tests and get their academic history to see those we can sponsor. For today we have spoken to the head teacher to determine the way forward.”

The Head Teacher, Mrs. Oyebimpe Alamutu expressed excitement about the gesture and thanked the foundation for the benevolence bestowed on the children.

“We appreciate the gifts as the event will not be forgotten in a hurry as this is the first of its kind in the history of the school.”.

The programme witnessed a cultural dance presentation by the pupils.
