(Updated) Army Chief, Ibrahim Attahiru, Feared Dead in Plane Crash

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General, Ibrahim Attahiru, is feared dead in a plane crash in Kaduna.

 

He was said to have died with some of his aides while returning to Abuja after an official trip to Kaduna.

Though the Nigerian Army has not confirmed the  tragic incident, military sources have confirmed the crash.

The Nigerian Air Force also confirmed that one of its aircraft was involved in a crash in its twitter handle Friday evening.

“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport.

“The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon”, Director of Public Relations and Information NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, tweeted.

The manifest of the ill-fated jet has not been released by NAF.

A source at the Kaduna International Airport said the plane crashed near the airport at about 6pm.

Details of the tragic incident are still scanty, but sources said all the eight people onboard died in the crash.

“The incident happened at about 6pm this evening near the airport and all the eight people on board in the aircraft were burnt. This is the only information I can give you”, the source said.
