The three top rated teams at the NWFL Premiership Super Six at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, that fell short of expectations in the first two match-days, will today be presented with the opportunities to redeem themselves and again play their ways back into contention.
The last two days in the Super Six have seen intense and fierce battles, that presented a number of upsets and heartbreaks involving Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels, that had come to the Super Six with so much expectations.
And unless they redeem themselves in today’s match-day three, they will be out of contention for the league title as well as the ticket for the WAFU B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
All the three matches today, are determinants of those teams that will challenge strongly for the NWFL Premiership title and the WAFU B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The first match of the day at 10am, will be between Bayelsa Queens, multiple champions and the league leaders at the end of the first round against a very tough opponent and 2018 champion, Rivers Angels.
Going into this game today, Bayelsa Queens have one point, and a win against Rivers Angels would give them four points but a loss will end their aspirations to win the title and represent Nigeria at the continent.
Rivers Angels that are on two points after two draws, also badly need to win the match against Bayelsa Queens to take them to five points and set their dream back on course.
The Bayelsa Queens versus Rivers Angels can easily be described as a “Rumble in the Creeks.” It’s going to be a game for survival.
The result of the second game of the match-day three between Edo Queens of Benin and FC Robo of Lagos is also full of high stakes. It’s a must-win for Edo Queens, after two straight losses with zero point.
A loss against FC Robo, would mean the end of the dream to win the league title and advance to the continent as Nigeria’s representative to the CAF Women Champions League. A draw which gives just one point may not be enough to redeem Edo Queens.
While a win for Super Six leaders, FC Robo, would see the Emmanuel Osahon-tutored team maintain their place at the summit on seven points.
The last match of the day which kicks off at 4pm, is between Sunshine Queens and Delta Queens. It is also a very crucial game as the result will either make or mar the chances of any of the two teams.
