As part of activities to commemorate the second edition of FirstBank of Nigeria’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) week 2018 tagged: ‘Touching Lives; You First,’ the bank recently organised a career counselling session for students of Yaba College of Technology Secondary School, Yaba, Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer, FirstBank of Nigeria, Dr. Adeshola Adeduntan said the week was dedicated to giving back to the society.

Adeduntan noted that the career counselling session would help the students understand themselves and the world in order to choose successful career.

“You cannot reinvent yourself without people. As a country, there is need to invest in the youths, therefore part of our own pillar in corporate social responsibility is counselling and role modelling for the younger generation. “We have a couple of key messages for them. First, professional life is rewarding, but it also comes with continuous improvement and investment in yourself.

“We also highlighted to them the importance of aligning their passion and interest with their capabilities to them. Also, we advised them on the need to build their personal brand at the stage they are.

“In this week, many of our colleagues are bringing out time to organising career counselling, visiting the orphanage homes, Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, widows, and lepers’ colony.

“Therefore, for us it is about giving something back to the society. At FirstBank, it is not about profitability, but making impacts in the environment where we operate. This is what we are committed in doing going forward.
