Zenith /Delta Principal’s Cup Final Holds in Ozoro

The final of the Zenith /Delta Principal’s Cup football competition organised for all secondary schools between Marvel International School Ughelli and St Paul College, Ozoro will hold today at the Ozoro Polytechnic Stadium.

The competition, sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc started on November 1 and in the past 16 weeks of intense competition in various parts of the state. The two schools will battle for honours this afternoon to determine the winner of the developmental competition which was only revived last year after 28 years in limbo.

In the semifinals, Marvel International School defeated Otokutu 3-1 on penalties to book the ticket to the final while St. Paul College Ozoro defeated Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku 2-0 in a highly entertaining encounter to also berth in the final.

Only on Wednesday, Otokutu Grammar School won the Third-place match of the football fiesta by defeating Boys Secondary School, Obiaruku 7-6 in penalty shoot-out. Full time score stood at 2-2.

Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, Commissioner for Basic Secondary School Education in the state, Chiedu Ebie, and other top dignitaries are expected to grace the final just as the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Peter Amangbo, is expected to be represented at the event by a top official of the bank.

Zenith Bank is expected to present gifts of various forms to the players of the top three teams especially the eventual winner.

Last year, bags, tee-shirts, balls, laptops were some of the gift items given to the students after the final match at the same venue in Ozoro.

It is also expected that apart from the trophy to the presented to the winning team today, individual awards will be given to the Best Goalkeeper, Highest Scorer and the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Master Card International Secondary School defeated Iderghe Secondary School 2-1 to win the maiden edition of the youth football fiesta last year.
