Commercial and other activities have stood still in Bauchi Saturday as thousands of Muslim youths and children besieged the major streets in the state capital to celebrate this year’s Eid-el Maulud.

The ‘Maulud’ rally which commenced as early as 8am from the palace of the emir of Bauchi has lasted for hours.

Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, was among the thousands of men, housewives and traders who closed their houses and shops to monitor the event just as the motorists have encountered serious traffic difficulties.

The participants of the Maulud who were mostly youths and children from various Islamic schools carried banners with Islamic inscriptions singing praise songs of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The renowned international Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi had explained that the purpose of the event was to commemorate the birth of the prophet.

Dahiru Bauchi who stated this during his Maulud on Saturday night at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) square Bauchi added that the event serves as a means of inculcating in all Muslims the love for prophet Muhammad.

The Islamic scholar used the forum to pray to the Almighty Allah to rid the country of its numerous problems especially the unending insecurity.
