As the “World’s #1 Most Awarded Single Malt Whisky” Glenfiddich endeavours to bring together the Maverick spirit of purpose, ingenuity, charisma and  mastery.

Recently, Glenfiddich in collaboration with the annual Felabration celebrations shut down Lagos to host a music night to honour the late Afro beat legend at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A day before the event, Glenfiddich welcomed the Global Brand Ambassador, Struan Grant Ralph, to Nigeria at a private networking and whiskey experience event which held at Radisson Blu Hotel. Struan spoke on the collaboration with Felabration and noted that “it is an honor to work with those who pay tribute to the legend, Fela Kuti”. Struan also taught all in attendance the Glenfiddich signature toast and assured all that the performances on Friday Night will be one to remember.

As a brand, Glenfiddich has never followed where the path leads, but instead where there is no path and has left a trail for others to follow. This was the backbone for choosing Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, Bez and Nneka, four great mavericks to perform at the event who all delivered breath-taking and thrilling performances that kept the crowd moving all night.

The Glenfiddich Felabration Night was filled with excitement as lovers of afrobeat from all over the world, fun seekers, friends, families gathered to pay homage to Fela’s legacy. And for the first time, Abuja residents will have the opportunity to experience this great line up of maverick’s courtesy of Glenfiddich on the 29th of October 2017 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel.

Four-time Grammy award nominee, Femi Kuti, is a maverick as he has forged his own path proving to be a true afro beat legend by establishing himself as an artist independent of his father’s legacy. He wowed the audience with his masterful use of the saxophone, holding a single note on the instrument for over five minutes. This was a major highlight of the evening in Lagos.

With his strong musical drive, Seun Kuti stands out from his contemporaries. Just like his father, he uses his music to speak out on topical, political and social issues not holding back on giving his views and opinions undeterred. His style which pays tribute to his father also had its own distinct flavor which electrified the crowd.

Bez’s style of music which is unique in the Nigerian music industry has won him fans all over the continent. His rock-star performance and masterful use of the guitar set the crowd up for what was to be a truly unforgettable night and Nneka’s soulful performance was a tribute to what Fela stood for and fought against.

A guitarist as well, her melodies were thought provoking and inspired the audience to always fight and never give up in the face of adversity. With an amazing experience in Lagos last weekend, the Glenfiddich Felabration night in Abuja is set to even be bigger as this is the first time Felabration will be taking place in Abuja.

Afrobeat King, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who embodies the key Glenfiddich values. Fela proved to be a timeless voice for all, a leader, political activist, ambassador of culture and heritage, all in all, a true maverick. Many times he was persecuted but he was never silenced.

He always took risks and thus became a powerful voice uplifting black pride and black lives. Glenfiddich remains committed to celebrating people like Fela- those who boldly take risks and are unafraid to create their own path.

As the Maverick Whisky Makers of Dufftown, Glenfiddich is the Whisky that forges its own path on its own terms thus, encouraging all true Mavericks to forge their own paths by creating their own rulebook.
