TUC Backs Govs on New Paris Club Loan Request

By Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has backed the governors of the 36 states of the federation on their request for 50 per cent Paris Club loan from the federal government.

The labour union, however, told President Muhammadu Buhari to give a condition that all the monies should be deployed to the payment of salary and pension arrears rather than allowing the governors to exercise their discretionary powers on how to spend the bailout.

The governors had during their meeting with President Buhari on Tuesday demanded another bailout to pay the outstanding salaries of workers in their respective states.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti Thursday, the state TUC Chairman, Mr. Odunayo Adesoye, said the congress has no opposition to the governors’ request provided the money will be used to pay salary and pension arrears across the country.

Adesoye said Nigerian workers have suffered enough and that every
legal means to bail them out of their present predicament should be
embraced by all stakeholders.
