Nigerian Odunayo Adekuoroye narrowly missed becoming the first African female wrestler to win a gold medal at the ongoing World Wrestling Championship in Paris, France wednesday.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist lost the 55kg category final gold to 18-year-old Japanese Haruna Okuno in a narrow 5-4 defeat. The silver she won is the first by any Nigerian lady in the sport.
She had qualified for the finals after defeating Iryna Kurachkina from Belarus 10-0 in the semi-finals earlier in the day.
