Sokoto State Government has committed over N3.7 billion to various agricultural programmes in the state.
Tambuwal made the remark at a leadership and wealth creation training for all executives, legislators and directors in all the 23 local government areas held in Sokoto on Monday.

He said this was in line with the state government’s agricultural strategic policy agenda geared towards reviving agriculture.

According to him, the agricultural policy framework of the present administration was aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing economic growth.

He said in addition to the provision of inputs, coupled with the Anchor Borrowers Programme, the Central Bank of Nigeria is extending single digit loan to farmers for production of rice and tomatoe at commercial quantity.
The governor announced that the state government in conjunction with the World Bank is to construct 500 km of rural roads in the state.

Tambuwal said this would ensure that rural communities have access roads for movement of farm produce to urban markets.

He described the workshop as timely, saying it was aimed at developing the capacity of the local leadership for poverty reduction.

“This marks a new chapter in the government’s determination to develop our potentials for sustainable development.

“ It is pertinent for stakeholders to effect a paradigm shift that will enable us have the capacity to tackle the enormous challenges bedeviling us,”he said.

He called on council chairmen to liaise with security agents and traditional leaders with a view to combating cattle rustling and armed banditry in their areas.

In a remark, the state Commissioner of Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Mannir Daniya, said the workshop was to educate officers at the local level to provide the given service to the people.
He therefore, charged the local government workers to rededicate themselves to the service of the people.
The state Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALONG), Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, commended the state government for organising the workshop, describing it as apt.
