The Niger State Government has completed arrangement to send 15 of its judicial staff to Australia for training, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Nasara Dan Mallam, disclosed tuesday in Minna, the state capital.
The training which would last for six weeks is one of the steps taken by the government to improve the professional competences of staff in the Ministry of Justice.
Mallam, who made this known at an end-of-the-year get together organised for the staff of the ministry, said the first batch of the participants would depart the country for Australia early next year.
“Capacity building is important and there are different ways you can improve the capacity of your staff in every organised sector. I don’t have any doubt that this kind of training will go a long way to inspire quite a lot of them to do more,” he stated.
The Attorney General said the government would continue to encourage those willing and able to go for further studies while administration was also making arrangement to send some staff on in-service training to expand their horizons in the discharge of their duties.
He disclosed that arrangements have been completed to review all the obsolete laws of the state, adding that to achieve this, the staff in the ministry have a role to play.
Mallam solicited for the cooperation of the people in the bid to transform the ministry, saying government on its part would provide a conducive working environment for them to discharge their duties.
“It is my belief that in a short time, the justice sector of the state will be a model if not for Nigeria as a whole, for the Northern region,” he stated.
