Kaduna Bans Processions, Unlawful Assembly

The Kaduna State Government  has imposed a ban on  all processions and unlawful assembly in all parts of the state.

The ban was announced in a statement yesterday after a meeting of heads of the security agencies in the state.

The spokesman of Governor Nasir el-Rufai, Mr. Sam Aruwan, who signed the statement, said: “No processions will be allowed for now in Kaduna State.”

He said the decision followed the assessment of the security situation in the state by  heads of security agencies during their meeting.

“Based on assessments of security reports, the meeting recommended that the Kaduna State Government should impose a temporary restriction on processions and act sternly against unlawful assembly,” the statement said.

Aruwan said  government  endorsed the recommendation and has decided to restrict processions accordingly and

called for the cooperation of all citizens to respect the ban until it is formally lifted.

According to the statement, “the decision was taken in the interest of the citizenry and to ensure law and order in the state.  Security agencies have been mandated to ensure compliance to the ban.  All citizens are advised to go about their lawful activities and to do their utmost to uphold peace and harmony.”
