Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State have apprehended three people for being in possession of a human head.
Those arrested are Abdulmumuni, aged 34 years, Jubrishina Aba, 35 years, and 24-year old Salihu Usman. The trio hail from Ekpa village in Mokwa local government area of Niger state.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Philip Ayuba, who paraded the suspects before newsmen in Minna on Saturday, said they were arrested while trying to get a buyer for the human head.
“Our personnel pretended to be interested in the human head and were bargaining on how much to pay before they were arrested,” he said.
Ayuba claimed that the suspects have confessed to committing the crime and would be charged to court soon.
One of the suspects Abdulmumuni Aliyu, narrating how they came about the human head ,said it was his brother Salihu Usman who invited him to his house to see the human head and assist in getting a buyer.
“I looked for a buyer for five months, when I approached one Isah to buy the head he agreed and said that he has a buyer in Mokwa town.
“When the buyer came we started negotiating the price with him and it was in that process we were arrested”.
Salihu Usman, the third suspect said that it was during a hunting expedition with Jubrinsha Aba in Ekpa bush that they saw a decomposing body of a woman in the bush.
Usman said they decided to cut off the head and sell it to make money.
“Two of us decided in the bush that we will sell the head to scientists and make money”. Salihu said, adding that it was not for any ritual.
