Warri Peace Marathon Gets Royal Blessings

As preparations for the Warri Peace Marathon gathers momentum, traditional ruler of the Warri Kingdom, HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli, has prayed for the successful debut of the event billed for May 28.

The marathon, first of its kind in the city, is meant to promote peaceful coexistence between communities in Warri and environs, and also to encourage healthy living for people of the state. The Delta State government has already thrown its weight behind the race as part of its sports and youth development programme.

The newly enthroned monarch, who was speaking while the organising committee of the Warri Peace Marathon paid a courtesy call on him yesterday, welcomed the novel idea and pledged his moral and financial support for the smooth running of the 10km race.

“We are very glad and encouraged by the endorsement by the Olu of Warri. To this end, we are working towards delivering a peaceful and enjoyable marathon race,” said CEO of Tamitare Gym, Joyce Bozimo who is promoter of the race.

She disclosed that there was also an enthusiastic response from the people of Warri and the youths who are eagerly waiting to participate in the event, which has winning prizes on offer.

Also speaking on the marathon, renowned athletics coach and sports administrator, Seigha Porbeni, submitted that everything was in order concerning the race, which will start at Jakpa Junction near the Warri Refinery and terminates at the Warri Township Stadium.
“So much progress has been made. We have the route mapped out and seeing to it that every other aspect is put in proper perspective.”
