NPFL: Akwa Utd Players Threatened with Half Pay

Akwa United have threatened to half the salaries of their players after they suffered their second Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) home loss on Sunday.

Akwa United fell 1-0 to champions Enyimba in front of their fans on Sunday after they also lost at home to Abia Warriors.

Akwa United acting Chairman, Paul Bassey, said a showdown meeting will be held with the players on Tuesday.

“We have not taken a decision on halving the salaries of the players. We will take a decision on that tomorrow,” he said.

“We were in Africa this year and we want to return to Africa.”

Bassey they are not owing their players salaries or bonuses, but wish to make a point they need to step up their game.

Belgian coach Maurice Cooreman has already been suspended for a month with pay.
