Linkage Assurance Plc has been announced as the Official Insurer of the second edition of the annual Okpekpe 10 kilometre Road Race, slated to hold on May 7.
Director of Organisation for the race, Zak Amodu, confirmed yesterday in Lagos that Linkage Assurance Plc will provide insurance cover for the entire 3,000 runners expected at this year’s race in Okpekpe, Edo State. The assurance firm is to also back the overall race organisation with cash support.
“In our determination to meet the requirement of the IAAF label condition, we have this afternoon (yesterday) secured the sponsorship of Linkage Assurance Plc as the Official Insurer of the fourth edition of the Okpekpe road race. They will provide insurance cover for the entire 3,000 runners expected this year on a value in kind basis with some cash to support the overall race organisation,” stressed Amodu yesterday.
He further revealed that the total financial commitment of N10m will be envisaged to cover the following: Death benefit for each athlete and official; Permanent Disablement and Medical Expenses of athletes.
Linkage Assurance is the latest partner of the Okpekpe race. Others include; SuperSport –who will broadcast on Pay TV with additional support with a pre-event ‘Let’s Play’ activity for 2,000 kids on the 6th May 2016; African Independent Television (AIT) is to broadcast the race on terrestrial television as a broadcast partner alongside Channels TV.
“As in the first bronze label race, we are committed to improving our status with the ambition of getting a silver label,” Amodu stressed yesterday.
