Bilateral Trade with Nigeria Hits Over $3.5bn – German Government

The German government has revealed that bilateral Trade with Nigeria has grown from $2.5 billion to over $3.5 billion.

Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Germany, Amb. Johannes Lehne made this known at a private-sector-driven conference that assembled industrial leaders from Germany and Nigeria.

The German-Nigeria Cement, Building Materials & Mining Technology Conference, convened on September 25, 2026 in Abuja, represented the single largest industry-focused German trade delegation ever to visit Nigeria.

The conference organised by VDMA, the European Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers Association, featured technology presentations from German delegates, a high-level panel on export and trade finance with representatives from DEG, representing the German Financial Institutions.

According to a communique issued yesterday, Lehne added that Germany’s “portfolio now exceeds €600 million, covering agriculture, enterprise development, and power, with bilateral trade growing from $2.5 billion to over $3.5 billion”

“Germany has been with Nigeria from the beginning, from its independence. We are not looking for one-off solutions. We want long-term partnerships; we want to develop the future together,” he added.

Also, the Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu underscored Nigeria’s commitment to private-sector-led growth under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He highlighted the recent €364 million export credit guarantee agreement with Germany as evidence of deepening financial architecture supporting industrial ventures.

Speaking at the event, the Convener and Head of German Delegates, Dr. Chux Onaa emphasised that Germany’s precision engineering aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s industrial ambitions.

“The strongest commercial relationships are built not only on technology and investment, but also on trust and a shared vision,” he stated.

The German delegation also engaged the Federal Ministry of Steel Development, where the Minister, Shuaibu Audu received the German OEMs.

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in steel production, mineral processing, technology transfer, and equipment manufacturing.

The minister called for partnerships leveraging German technological capacity to drive industrial growth.
