ASCE Reaffirms Commitment to Champion Sustainable Infrastructure Initiatives

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Nigeria Section, has said that they would continue to champion resilient and sustainable infrastructure through initiatives such as engineering standards, research, professional education, policy advocacy and strategic partnerships.
Speaking at ASCE 2026 Conference, President, Nigeria Section, ASCE Nigeria, Austin Odibi, said as section they will continue to promote engineering excellence, knowledge exchange and innovative approaches to Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges.
He noted that these efforts equip engineers with the knowledge and tools required to address climate change, advance innovative infrastructure solutions and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
He also noted that the event themed, ‘Climate Adaptive Cities: Engineering Solutions for Resilient Urban Futures’, aimed particularly at efforts relating to resilient infrastructure, sustainable cities and climate action.
He maintained that this year’s conference builds on that tradition by placing climate adaptation and urban resilience at the centre of our professional discourse.
“The ASCE Nigeria Section remains committed to translating these global priorities into meaningful professional engagement within Nigeria. As engineers, we have a responsibility not only to design infrastructure that meets today’s needs, but also to anticipate tomorrow’s challenges,” he said.
