Osborn Umahi Begins New Chapter With Ohaozara Victory

Engr. Osborn Nweze Umahi has begun a new phase in his public-service career following his emergence as chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

Umahi, 28, contested the council election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress after securing the party’s chairmanship ticket earlier in 2026.

His election places him among a younger generation of political office holders seeking to make an impact at the grassroots level.

Umahi has also announced that he will forgo salaries and allowances throughout his tenure, saying his primary objective is to develop Ohaozara rather than benefit financially from public office.
The pledge adds an unusual dimension to an administration already expected to attract considerable scrutiny because of the chairman’s age, family background and business experience.

Umahi is the son of former Ebonyi State governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.
His campaign emphasised economic development, infrastructure, youth engagement and a corporate approach to governance.

With the election concluded, attention will now shift to implementation and the measurable outcomes of those commitments.
