Mekaria Institute Set to Transform Digital Skills Education in Nigeria

The Mekaria Institute of Technology & Administration, a modern digital-first tertiary institution located in Obosi, Anambra State, has unveiled its vision to bridge the gap between traditional education and the rapidly evolving global digital economy by equipping young Nigerians with practical, work-ready skills.

Speaking on the institute’s mission and future direction, Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Adedayo Ojo, said the institution was founded on the Igbo philosophy of Emekaria, a principle that translates to “doing more, doing better” and which drives a commitment to excellence, innovation and practical learning.

According to Ojo, Mekaria was established in response to a growing challenge in Nigeria’s education sector, where many graduates possess academic certificates but lack the competencies required by today’s job market. The institute is therefore designed to produce graduates who can immediately contribute to the workforce through hands-on training, project-based learning and industry-relevant certifications.
Located in Obosi, an emerging educational hub in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mekaria offers National Diploma (ND) programmes in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Networking and Cloud Technology, Digital Marketing, Multimedia Technology, Content Production, Mass Communication, Project Management and Public Administration.

The institute’s curriculum emphasises employability, innovation and entrepreneurship to ensure that every student acquires skills that can generate income within two years of study. Students are also provided with structured credit-transfer pathways that enable seamless progression to Higher National Diploma (HND) and university degree programmes.

With tuition fees ranging from ₦80,000 to ₦130,000 depending on the course of study, Mekaria aims to make quality technology-focused education accessible while maintaining high academic standards. The institution is also exploring scholarship opportunities and flexible payment plans to support deserving students.

Looking ahead, Mekaria plans to expand its academic offerings, establish an Innovation Hub for startup incubation and mentorship, and ultimately attain degree-awarding status. The institute also seeks to become a catalyst for economic growth in Anambra State by producing highly skilled graduates capable of serving local businesses and competing in the global digital marketplace.
