Plantain Village Targets Faster Returns for Investors, Boost to Food Production

An agro-real estate farmland ownership initiative, Plantain Village, located in Seriki village Obafemi Orode, Ogun State, has been unveiled by Obuba Investment Limited, popularly known as Obuba Properties, in collaboration with Bam Mansion Limited, with Mr. Akin Busari describing the project as a practical solution to food insecurity while creating faster returns for investors.

The project, spearheaded by the directors of the two companies, Prince Emeka O. Igwe of Obuba Investment Limited and Akin Busari of Bam Mansion Limited, combines land banking with commercial plantain cultivation to enable investors generate income from agricultural production while their land appreciates in value.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, the Founders of Plantain Village, said the project was designed to bridge the gap between agriculture and real estate by providing Nigerians with agro-real estate that delivers both financial returns and food security.

“We created Plantain Village because we saw the need for an agro-real estate farmland ownership that delivers value much earlier than conventional agro-real estates projects. Rather than asking investors to wait for between 4-5year before earning returns, we chose plantain because it begins production within about 9-11 months. Beyond profitability, this project is our contribution to addressing food scarcity, creating jobs and encouraging more Nigerians to participate in productive farmland ownership,” Prince Emeka said.

According to the founders, the initiative addresses one of the major challenges facing agro-real estate investors in Nigeria, where returns on investments in crops such as oil palm, cocoa, cashew and coconut often take several 4-5years to materialise.

As part of efforts to showcase the initiative, the founders recently hosted the Plantain Village Experience, attracting more than 90 professional realtors across the nation and prospective investors to the project site.

The event, described as more than a routine site inspection, was designed to provide participants with firsthand experience of the farmland ownership opportunity and demonstrate the viability of the project.

Participants were taken through guided tours of the plantation while our agro consultants educated them on the importance of plantain cultivation, suitable species for commercial farming and best agronomic practices.

Some of the attendees also participated in planting plantain suckers under the supervision of farm consultants, giving them practical exposure to the farming process.

The president of SealDeal realtors network limited, Amb. Esther Temitope Igwe said the large turnout reflected growing confidence in Plantain Village project, adding that the enthusiasm displayed by participants underscored the project’s appeal.

“Our goal was to allow people experience the project for themselves and appreciate that it is real, tangible and professionally managed. From the excitement on the faces of participants, it was clear they understood the value of what Plantain Village represents,” Akin Busari said.

On transparency and sustainability, the companies disclosed that professional agricultural experts have been engaged to oversee the management of the plantation, while the farmland has also been fully insured to safeguard investors’ interests.

Mr Prince Emeka, explained that the project presents multiple opportunities for stakeholders, including an additional income stream for realtors and a long-term wealth preservation strategy for investors seeking to diversify their portfolios.

Beyond returns, they expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute significantly to Nigeria’s agricultural development through increased food production, job creation and future agro-processing activities aimed at boosting exports in west Africa.

Some realtors who attended urged Nigerians in diaspora and home to embrace the initiative, saying, “Plantain Village is real and tangible. As food scarcity continues to increase in Nigeria, this is the time for Nigerians to invest in agro-real estate. Together, we can move from being a consumption nation to a production nation while building wealth that can be preserved for generations.”

The project is being implemented through a partnership between Obuba Investment Limited (Obuba Properties) and Bam Mansion Limited
