Julian Osula: Social Power in Red Skirt

My big brother Julian Osula is a power broker. You will not know because he prefers to operate behind the scenes, in the shadows. Last weekend, however, he had no choice but to come out in the open to show what stuff he is truly made up of. His handsome son was taking a princess as his wife. Julian pulled out all the stops to make the ceremony very memorable for the young couple.

Now, since Chike Ogeah introduced me to Julian, I have remained totally enamoured with the way he does his things, and this event was not different. “Edgar, my family does not joke with you,” he keeps telling me. “Even before I put your name on the list, Madam has put your name.” Madam, in this case, is the gracious, stupendously beautiful and one of the most brilliant investment bankers in Nigeria, Oghogho Osula.

I entered the party in my Mudi newspaper-inspired designer wear. If you see me, you will think say na human THISDAY Newspaper was walking towards you o. People were staring at me, and I was loving the attention. Mbok, enough on me o.

The traditional wedding was remarkably rich. Kai, Julian, his wife, and in-laws really portrayed the Bini, Itsekiri, and Ogwashi-Uku traditions in a very beautiful ensemble of costumes, songs, rituals and more. Kai, you should have been there.

One remarkable thing about the whole ceremony was the kind of people that Julian pulled in. Oya let me list the very powerful people I saw there. There was Olu Akpata, Chuka Onwuchekwa, Chuka Eseka,  Nnamdi Okonkwo, Tony Elumelu and wife, Awele, Aliko Dangote, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, former Governor Donald Duke, Onari Duke, Abimbola Olashore, Cubana Chief Priest, Charlie Boy, former Governor Segun Osoba, Uju Ifejika, Senator Daisy Danjuma,  Dr. Tony Eze, and so many super high profile Nigerians that you would think that Julian was a godfather of sorts.

Well, my real fear after seeing all these kinds of super weddings sponsored by the parents, is that I have three daughters. Is it by selling tickets of stage plays that I will be able to afford weddings like this? I know my daughters, especially that crazy Chantal, will want something more grand than what Julian did.

I wish the young couple a blissful marital journey. God bless them, and God help me.
