How to Plan Your Holiday Outfits
Going on holiday is an annual rite of passage, and one you can never ignore. Everyone needs a break, and this summer is your chance to make the most of your own. All too often, holidays become last-minute and highly-rushed affairs, whether its scrambling for your passport on the way out the door or more generally leaving your packing to the last second.
This summer, though, is going to be different. Rather than making do with the same old tired cossies, uninspired outfits and bizarre last-minute wardrobe pulls, you’re going to put together a suitcase that actually reflects your style – and that allows you to balance style and practicality with a holiday wardrobe that makes you feel confident.
Start with the Climate
Before you start your wardrobe planning, though, a couple of absolutely crucial questions. Where are you travelling to, and what’s the weather like? The answers to these will greatly dictate the outfits for which you’ll be most suited; if you don’t heed them, you could find yourself struggling for warmth or sweaty and bothered.
Here, we’ll use Croatia as a handy example. A Croatia holiday in the summer is a balmy one, but with weather that bears a tiny bit more in common with the UK than with other parts of Europe. It’s a great balance of sea-flecked wind, baking sun and overcast days, that demands a versatile suitcase…
Daytime Outfits for Sightseeing & Exploring
First, then, let’s tackle your day-to-day. For most of your daytime wanderings, you’ll be doing just that: wandering. You’ll be sightseeing, souvenir shopping and generally swanning about in the rich cultural milieu of the town centre or local attractions. For this, you’ll want light and comfortable footwear, and layered, breathable fabrics to handle heat and sweat with elegance. A nice broad hat can work wonders for sun-shading, too. Practical is the world, but chic is the execution.
Beachwear That Works Beyond the Beach
Of course, Croatia is quite remarkably coastline-heavy as countries go – and you’ll want to spend a decent amount of time exploring or simply basking in that coastal sunshine. For this, you need a killer beachside wardrobe. Invest in some swimwear that makes you feel comfortable, confident and suave, in exactly that order. No point making yourself feel unconfident for style reasons! Sunglasses and a broad hat are a must, as is sunscreen; it may not be sexy, but it is a non-negotiable for avoiding sunburn.
Evening Looks: Casual, Comfortably Chic
Finally but by no means an afterthought, there’s the matter of your evening looks. Dinner and dancing, general nightlife exploration, or even just dinner at the hotel – all demand something a little more elevated you’re your daily attire. You deserve to feel a million at night, so pack for it! You can still be smart and shrewd you’re your packing, particularly if you go for accessorising over-shirts or scarves that help you elevate an existing look. That said, one killer evening dress won’t take you over the weight limit…
