Ex-Katsina Guber Candidate Quits NNPP

A former gubernatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State, Engr. Mohammed Nur Khalil, has formally resigned his membership from the party, bringing an end to his leadership role within the state chapter.

In a resignation letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to the NNPP State Chairman through his ward leadership in Kandarawa, Khalil said his decision takes immediate effect.

The former candidate, who also served as a key party leader in the state, described his time in the NNPP as one marked by “a deep sense of duty” and commitment to the socio-economic advancement of Katsina State. 

He noted that leading the party during a critical electoral cycle was a responsibility he handled with utmost seriousness and pride.

Khalil expressed appreciation to the party for providing him a platform to pursue his vision for the development of the state, highlighting his role in championing policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

He explained that his resignation followed “a period of profound reflection and wide-ranging consultation” with political associates and stakeholders, although he did not disclose his next political move.

Despite his exit, Khalil reaffirmed his commitment to the progress of Katsina State and the strengthening of democratic ideals, signaling that he remains active in the political space.

The former NNPP flagbearer also thanked the party leadership, grassroots mobilisers, and supporters for their trust and support, describing the relationships built during the political struggle as invaluable.

He wished the party success in its future endeavors and prayed for continued peace and prosperity in Katsina State.

Khalil’s resignation is expected to have political implications for the NNPP in Katsina, particularly given his prominence as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last election cycle.
