Meet Yagga: The TikTok Sensation from South Sudan

These days, most people just come online for fun, while some see it as a means to showcase their talent. From making fun of it to jumping to being famous through it.

If you’re a TikTok lover, you’ll always come across Yagga, right? That TikToker who went viral in 2022 for just reacting to a video of a girl.

Yagga began posting on TikTok in 2020; apparently, he blew up in 2021. “I didn’t even expect to blow up like, I just posted a video, suddenly I started gaining views and seeing my followers grow. That was amazing,” says Yagga.

Now, who is this Yagga guy?

Yagga, who rose to fame in mid-2021, was born in Nimule, South Sudan, on June 26, 1999. Although he moved to Kampala, Uganda, at an early age, he later moved to Nairobi, Kenya. He grew up diversely. “Growing up in Kampala and Nairobi really shaped my life. I thank God I was able to learn from both sides, but I was born in South Sudan, though,” Yagga noted.

Before he became fully known as Yagga, the TikToker was first known as Mr. Idiot; that name almost gave him thorns, and then he switched to Mr. Nyash. But why was he called Me Nyash? Because he went about spreading content about Nyash. As we all know in Africa, Nyash refers to buttocks, so he went viral for always promoting that act. Yagga’s journey to fame didn’t just come overnight; he struggled to be where he is today. From posting more videos to just blowing up with one video.

What were his early times like?

Yagga’s real name is Aboor Abraham Ayaau Riak. He attended African Outreach Academy UG for his primary education. After his graduation, he then got enrolled in Lakeside College Luzira for his secondary education, both in Uganda. When he began posting, in his mind, he thought he wouldn’t blow up, but that’s a lie; he roughly blew up the next year.

For now, he is one of the people making waves on TikTok, attracting big topics to the game. Recently, the TikToker made some big deals with some brands. He showed up in an advertisement with 1XBet and Coca-Cola. Each video has received over 1 million views, propelling him to further online fame.

Now you see, from just a normal TikToker to working with big brands. That is to say, hard work pays off really.

During his early times, Yagga faced some financial challenges. “When I began posting in 2020, I won’t lie, I didn’t see any success; the first videos made me almost feel like giving up. But I persisted, finally I blew up the next year. I am thankful for that,” says Yagga.
