The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has commended Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for demonstrating exemplary leadership in managing successor–predecessor relations, describing his approach as a model for political stability in Nigeria.
Issa-Onilu made the remarks in Abuja during a meeting with officials from Ekiti State, where he noted that the governor’s leadership style has helped to sustain harmony among political actors and ensure continuity in governance.
“Governor Oyebanji is performing excellently. He has not disappointed the party or the people of Ekiti,” he said.
“States experiencing crises in successor–predecessor transitions should learn from Ekiti. His management of stakeholders and predecessors has set a standard worthy of emulation.”
He added that the governor’s inclusive and strategic approach has strengthened institutional cooperation and reduced the tensions that often accompany political transitions.
“His leadership has fostered stability and encouraged collaboration across different arms of government and the civil service. These are critical elements for sustainable development,” Issa-Onilu added.
The NOA Director-General also underscored the economic importance of tourism, noting that well-organised events can significantly boost local economies.
“Tourism creates a ripple effect across sectors. During major events, hotels, transport services, and even small businesses like local restaurants record increased patronage,” he said.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, Wale Ojo-Lanre, commended the governor’s deliberate efforts to reposition the state as a tourism destination.
According to him, the administration has within a short period established key policy frameworks to drive growth in the sector.
“The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved both the Tourism Policy and the Tourism Development Master Plan. These are foundational documents that will guide the sector’s growth and attract investment,” he said.
Ojo-Lanre added that the state is leveraging its natural attractions and cultural assets to stimulate economic activity and create jobs.
In response, Issa-Onilu expressed interest in visiting Ekiti State to explore areas of collaboration, particularly in promoting tourism and national reorientation programmes.
Observers say the governor’s approach to governance, especially in managing political transitions, is gradually positioning Ekiti State as a reference point for stability and effective leadership in Nigeria.
