Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, yesterday, said President Bola Tinubu had approved additional security measures for the state after he was briefed on last Sunday’s attack by terrorists in the state.

In his update, Muftwang disclosed that security agencies had restored normalcy in the area.

The governor revealed the developments yesterday while speaking with newsmen after a closed-door meeting with Tinubu at State House, Abuja.

Muftwang reiterated that security forces had restored calm after fresh disturbances involving looters on Wednesday morning.

He stated, “What happened on Sunday evening was quite unfortunate, but the situation has been brought under control now. We imposed a curfew, which we relaxed yesterday into this morning. I mean, we relaxed this morning from 8am to 3pm

“Unfortunately, this morning (Wednesday) there were some looters who tried to disrupt the peace again, but I’m glad that the security forces working together were able to calm the situation at noon, and so presently the situation is well under control.”

Describing the attack that left over a dozen people dead and many others injured as barbaric and an act of terrorism, the governor stated that he was able to fully brief the president on the incident.

He said, “The meeting was, first of all, for me to brief him first-hand about what actually happened, what are the steps we have taken, and to also offer suggestions. I mean, what are our plans going forward? Immediately after the crisis, we convened a security council meeting.

“I have been able to agree on certain steps that we need to take, and the president has agreed that those steps should be taken. The president commiserates with the entire state, and as a matter of fact, he’s contemplating coming to the state personally to commiserate with the people.

“It’s something that has touched him personally, and he wants to show the people his love and affection for them, and so he has approved certain measures that we need to take further in conjunction with the security forces.

“What I can assure you is that this has become a decisive turning point that I’m sure going forward we’re going to see more proactive actions.”

Asked what could have been the motive behind the attack, Muftwang emphasised that it would be difficult to adduce a particular reason for such dastardly act.

He stated, “Well, in a crisis of this nature, you can’t reduce it to one reason. It’s a mixture of multiple reasons, and sometimes you can only deduce the actual reasons when you are able to get two groups of people.

“First, the victims, and then the attackers. Unfortunately, we’ve not been able to lay hands on the attackers yet to know their identities and their motive, but of course, the victims would normally speak like you have said, but we are seeing this as an act of criminality.

“It’s barbaric. We condemn it. It’s an act of terrorism, because whatever religion you belong to, it does not give you any basis to come and do the kind of actions that were done on Sunday. We’re, therefore, hoping that going forward, we’ll deal with this as criminality and make sure that these kind of actions do not repeat themselves.”

Seadogs Tell FG to Stop Treating Nigerian Lives with Kid Gloves

National Association of Seadogs (NAS) condemned the killing of no fewer than 30 residents in the Anguwan Rukuba area of Jos, describing the incident as yet another tragic indication of the government’s failure to adequately protect life and property.

The group, in a statement by its Cap’n, Dr Joseph Oteri, expressed outrage over the Sunday night attack, warning against what it termed the continued trivialisation of Nigerian lives amid recurring violence across the country.

Oteri stated, “We are deeply saddened and outraged by the recurring killings in Jos and other communities across Nigeria. The sanctity of human life must never be treated casually or with kid gloves. Every Nigerian life matters and must be protected with the full weight of the law.”

Oteri lamented that the persistent bloodshed in Plateau State and other parts of the country had become a disturbing pattern, calling for urgent and decisive measures from authorities to halt the trend.

Oteri said the frequency of such attacks raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of current security strategies and the commitment of government at all levels to proactively prevent violence.

He stated, “The pattern of violence we continue to witness is alarming. From Plateau to other parts of the country, Nigerians are being subjected to avoidable trauma, fear, and loss.

“The federal government must move beyond routine condemnations and demonstrate genuine political will to stop these senseless killings. It must stop playing politics with the lives of Nigerians.”

League of Northern Democrats Condemns Kill-ings, Worries over Security Concerns

League of Northern Democrats (LND) condemned the recent killings and violence in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, the Plateau State capital.

In a statement by its spokesman, Ladan Salihu, the group, said, ‘’We call on the security forces to painstakingly investigate, identify and respond appropriately to the perpetrators of these gruesome crimes.”

The league also expressed concern over the presence and general activities of one American national, believed to be a mercenary, Mr. Alex Berbir, in connection with the incident.

According to Salihu, ‘’We find it troubling that he reportedly appeared at the scene almost immediately after the attack. We, therefore, call on authorities to clarify: when he entered Nigeria, how he arrived at the location so quickly and the purpose of his presence, including the contents of the bag he was seen carrying.

‘’More concerning are video clips of this same individual previously seen in Jos openly inciting religious tension by holding the Holy Qur’an and misrepresenting its teachings to provoke hostility against Muslims. Such actions are dangerous and unacceptable in a fragile security environment.

‘’Following the incident, he also made unverified claims online about the nature of the casualties and issued remarks directed at the president, which risk further inflaming tensions.

‘’Our position, Nigeria’s sovereignty and peace must not be undermined by any individual – local or foreign. Incitement, misinformation and provocative conduct such as the ones seen done by Mr. Berbir must not be tolerated.’’

UNIJOS Students Caught in Skirmishes, Alumni, Lawyers’ Forum Raise the Alarm

Tension heightened in parts of Jos metropolis yesterday following isolated attacks on motorists and tricycle operators, with several residents, including students of the University of Jos, caught in the disturbances.

The unrest, which affected sections of Jos North Local Government Area, prompted urgent reactions from key civic bodies, including the University of Jos Alumni Association and Plateau Lawyers Bar Forum, both calling for immediate government intervention to prevent further escalation.

In an official statement by its Global President, Gad Peter Shamaki, University of Jos Alumni Association expressed concern over the rising insecurity affecting students, staff, and surrounding communities.

The association urged the Plateau State government and security agencies to deploy enhanced, visible, and coordinated security presence across all UNIJOS campuses, student hostels, major access routes, and residential areas heavily populated by students.

The statement specifically requested: round the clock patrols, intelligence led surveillance, and rapid response units to neutralise emerging threats

Students were also advised to remain indoors, stay vigilant, and report suspicious activity as the situation continued to unfold.

In a separate press release, Plateau Lawyers Bar Forum condemned what it described as the “dastardly and heartless killings” of defenceless residents of Angwan Rukuba on March 29, 2026.

The attack, carried out by armed criminals, was the latest in a series of violent incidents across Plateau State.

Signed by Ledak D. Dafer, Esq. (Chairman) and Dr. D. N. Dashe, Esq. (for Secretary), the forum lamented the continued spread of terrorist linked attacks across Wase, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Bassa, and now Jos North.
