The WERBLACK Wines Synergy Cup Tournament 2025 lived up to expectations as one of the most vibrant and unifying sporting events organized by the Island AllStars Sports Club in Lagos.
The tournament, proudly sponsored by WERBLACK Wines, brought together members, partners, and sports enthusiasts in a celebration of football, friendship, and community spirit.
The sponsorship was championed by the company’s Chairman/CEO, Sir Okechukwu Uche-Ukah, whose passion for sports and social development played a central role in making the competition a reality. The journey to the tournament began with a colourful unveiling ceremony where the club presented the official logo, mascot, fixtures, and participating teams, marking the final stage of preparations for the historic competition.
The WERBLACK Wines Synergy Cup kicked off on October 18, 2025, at the Lagos Business School Arena and ran through November 29, 2025, delivering six exciting weekends of football. Four competitive teams participated in the tournament, including Lugna Properties and Drexel Apartments; The Beats Electronics; and Wiz Clothings.
The opening matches set the tone for the competition, with The Beats Electronics facing Wiz Clothings in the first match of the tournament, followed by Lugna Properties taking on Drexel Apartments later that morning.
Across the six-week competition, players displayed impressive skill, determination, and sportsmanship, while fans and club members turned out each weekend to support their teams. The only break in the schedule came on November 15, when the club hosted a multi-sports event for its members.
A major highlight of the tournament was the strong corporate backing provided by WERBLACK Wines, whose sponsorship underscored the company’s dedication to community engagement and social responsibility. Speaking during the unveiling ceremony ahead of the competition, Sir Okechukwu Uche-Ukah, Chairman/CEO of WERBLACK Wines, explained that the company sponsored the tournament as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives. He emphasized that sports remain one of the most powerful tools for strengthening the mind and spirit while fostering unity within communities. Sir Uche-Ukah, widely regarded as a strong supporter of sports initiatives, reaffirmed his belief that corporate organizations have a responsibility to support activities that encourage healthy living, friendship, and positive engagement. Through the Synergy Cup sponsorship, WERBLACK Wines demonstrated how corporate leadership can help nurture community development while promoting the values of teamwork and excellence.
The Club’s Director of Sports, Chief Dr. Ike Okorafor, also praised the successful organization of the tournament and the collaboration that made it possible. According to him, the Synergy Cup was designed to strengthen bonds among members while promoting a culture of fitness and excellence. He explained that the competition reflected the club’s commitment to building a community where fitness, friendship, and excellence thrive together.
Dr. Okorafor also described the WERBLACK Wines Synergy Cup as a symbol of collaboration between sports and community values.
“This competition represented teamwork and passion. It showed that sport continues to be one of the strongest tools for unity and positive engagement. We wanted every All Star club in Nigeria to see this as a standard of organization and togetherness.”he said.
However, by the time the tournament concluded in late November 2025, the WERBLACK Wines Synergy Cup had achieved more than just sporting success. It strengthened friendships, promoted wellness, and reinforced the value of collaboration between corporate organizations and community initiatives.
