Bayelsans to Enjoy Power Soon, As 60mw Gas Turbine Nears Completion

Olusegun Samuel in Yenagoa

Amidst the prolonged power outage suffered by residents of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, and other parts of the state, the state government has told Bayelsans, especially Yenagoa residents, that joy is coming very soon.

The state government assured residents that the situation will soon be a thing of the past with the state’s 60 megawatt independent gas turbine project nearing completion.

Residents of the state, who have suffered several postponements of the dates of  inauguration of the gas turbine project, lamented that they have gone for several weeks without power.

However, the Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Orientation, Mrs  Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, has expressed the state government’s enthusiasm on the inauguration of the project expected to be  performed by President Bola Tinubu.

Koku-Obiyai, who stated this on Tuesday while fielding questions from journalists after a visit to the gas turbine site at Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area, urged residents of the state to continue to support the state government.

She said: “The problem is the commissioning date, over the months we have been giving dates but this time we want everything to be set and we are believing that the president of this nation will come and commission it.

“So there are a lot of processes to tidy up, so I want Bayelsans to continue to support the government. You have gone round and you have seen it with your eyes, that is why I always say, don’t sit down at home and criticize but go and see what your government is doing with your eyes. Let us calm down and continue to believe and in no distant time the light will be on.”

Also fielding questions from newsmen at the gas turbine project site, the Director of Operations of the Bayelsa Electricity Company, Mr. Steve Bubagha, said the contractors are working round the clock and putting finishing touches to deliver the project on time.
