COMPLYFEST 2025 Highlights Strategic Shift in Africa’s Compliance Landscape
Lagos recently played host to leading voices in governance, risk management and regulatory practice as COMPLYFEST 2025 convened professionals across sectors to examine the evolving future of compliance in Africa.
Held on May 24, 2025, the one-day conference brought together regulators, corporate executives, risk practitioners, legal experts and technology innovators under the theme, “Adapting to the Future of Compliance.” The gathering focused on the growing intersection between regulation, technology and enterprise resilience in an increasingly complex risk environment.
In her opening remarks, the Convener of COMPLYFEST, Chioma Anusiobi, described the conference as a strategic response to the rapid transformation reshaping governance frameworks across industries. She noted that compliance is no longer confined to regulatory obligation but has become central to institutional sustainability, investor confidence and long-term growth.
According to her, “The compliance function is evolving beyond monitoring and enforcement. It now plays a defining role in guiding organisational decision-making, strengthening ethical leadership, and preparing institutions for emerging risks driven by technology and global regulatory shifts.”
The conference featured keynote presentations and panel discussions addressing digital risk governance, artificial intelligence in risk management, cross-border regulatory trends, data protection obligations, and the implications of emerging technologies for compliance oversight. Participants examined how organisations can adapt compliance systems to meet both local regulatory requirements and global standards.
Speakers also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between regulators and private sector operators to ensure that innovation does not outpace governance structures. Discussions underscored the importance of building agile compliance frameworks capable of responding to cybersecurity threats, fintech expansion, evolving data protection regimes, and heightened stakeholder expectations.
A notable feature of the event was an interactive question-and-answer session that encouraged direct engagement between participants and industry leaders. The session allowed practitioners to interrogate practical challenges and explore adaptive strategies suited to Africa’s regulatory terrain.
COMPLYFEST 2025 was organised in partnership with Regfyl, Cyberpatron Network and Compliance Tribe, reflecting a broader push toward ecosystem-driven solutions within the governance and risk community. Organisers acknowledged the role of strategic partners in advancing conversations around regulatory innovation and professional standards.
Industry observers at the event noted that as Nigerian and African businesses increasingly integrate digital infrastructure into their operations, compliance functions must evolve from reactive control mechanisms to proactive strategic enablers.
With attendance drawn from multiple sectors, including finance, telecommunications, technology and professional services, the conference reinforced Lagos’ growing status as a hub for regulatory dialogue and thought leadership within the region.
Building on the 2025 edition, organisers disclosed plans to expand the platform in 2026, projecting increased participation and deeper engagement across the continent’s governance ecosystem.
As regulatory expectations continue to intensify globally, forums such as COMPLYFEST are positioning compliance professionals at the forefront of shaping sustainable corporate governance frameworks for Africa’s future.
