Atilola Ascends to West African No. 1 Following Dominant Run in Algeria
Nigeria’s junior tennis sensation Mofifunoluwa Atilola has reached a new career milestone, climbing to the top of the West African U-14 rankings following a trophy-winning performance at the ITFCAT Africa Junior Tennis Championship (AJC).
The 12-year-old’s clinical display in North Africa has not only secured her the regional top spot but has also propelled her to No. 4 in the overall continental standings.
Atilola’s campaign at the AJC was defined by a blend of tactical maturity and physical endurance. She dominated the first leg of the championship, capturing the title through a series of impressive performances that showcased her baseline precision and mental fortitude. Transitioning into the second leg, the youngster maintained her momentum to reach the semi-finals, ultimately finishing fourth and underlining her status as one of the most consistent performers on the circuit.
The rise of the “dazzling star” is particularly notable given her relatively short tenure on the African Junior Circuit. Since she began competing internationally just a year ago, Atilola has seen a meteoric rise in the rankings, driven by a string of dominant displays in recent ITF and CAT sanctioned tournaments. Her latest success in Algeria further solidifies her reputation as a formidable representative of Nigerian sports on the international stage.
As Atilola approaches her 13th birthday this October, her focus remains on maintaining this upward trajectory. With her eyes set on the upcoming season, the young prodigy looks poised to continue her pursuit of the top continental ranking while keeping the Nigerian flag flying high across the African Junior Tennis Circuit.
