Kano Set for Bye-Elections in Three LGAs

Voters in three local government areas of Kano State are set to exercise their franchise as Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) is set to conduct a hitch- free bye-elections slated for on Saturday, December 12.

Briefing journalists yesterday, KANSIEC Commissioner for Security and Protocol, Shehu Na Allah Kura, explained that the  bye-elections, will hold in Dala Local Government (Kofar Mazugal Ward), Dogowa Local Government (Maraku Ward), and Ghari Local Government (Matan Fada Ward) of the state.

According to him, all necessary security arrangements for a hitch-free exercise have been made, expressing optimism that the voters would turn up en masse to cast their votes, in spite of the reported security issue in some border communities in the state.

He said, “From our end, almost 99 per cent of the preparations have been concluded. The recruitment of Ad- hoc officers, the engagement of all stakeholders on election matters and the deployment of election materials to the affected wards have been concluded.”

The commissioner further explained that “the contest will be among only four of the registered political parties but the All Progressives Congress (APC) had failed to field a candidate for the polls although, they did not participate during the conduct of the last local government elections.”

He maintained that KANSIEC cannot force any political party in the state to participate in the Ward bye- elections. adding that the bye- elections is available for parties that are willing to participate.
