By Sowemimo Pelumi.
Accesstech Innovation and Research Centre secured a significant double victory during the recent commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), clinching two prestigious awards that cement its status as a leader in accessibility technology and corporate inclusion.
The organization was recognized for its groundbreaking work in developing accessible digital tools and pioneering inclusion practices, specifically benefiting the visually impaired community across Nigeria.
The first major accolade received was the Digital Innovation Champion Award, conferred by the AbilityX Disability Leadership Forum, a key initiative under Project Enable Africa. This award serves as a testament to Accesstech’s remarkable success in deploying cutting-edge digital tools and assistive technologies that are actively empowering blind and visually impaired individuals nationwide.
Accesstech’s triumph was swiftly followed by the Corporate Inclusion Champion Award, presented by the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA). This recognition specifically applauds the Centre’s innovative practices and programs that have effectively championed and promoted the inclusion of persons with disabilities within corporate sectors.
Reacting to the dual victory, Opeolu Akinola, CEO of Accesstech Innovation and Research Centre, stated the awards are a direct validation of the organization’s core mission.
“These awards are a powerful validation of the commitment we have in changing the story of visually impaired persons from dependents to productive members of society,” Akinola said. “We are happy that the impact is being noticed and celebrated. We do not see this as a finish line; we take this as a clear call to do even more.”
The two awards underscore Accesstech Innovation and Research Centre’s pivotal role in bridging the digital divide and fostering a more inclusive and productive environment for persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
