72 Bag First Class as Achievers University Holds 15th Convocation

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, has announced that a total of 72 students will bag First Class honours as the institution graduates 705 students during its 15th Convocation Ceremony.

Prof. Aremu, who disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing and 18th Foundation Day celebration said the figures reflect the university’s steady rise in academic excellence, institutional growth and national relevance.

According to him, “At this year convocation ceremony, 705 students across first – and higher-degree programmes, will graduate. Of this number, 656 students are awarded First Academic Degrees. 72 of them have distinguished themselves with First Class Honours, 318 are in the Second Class (Upper Division), 223 earned the Second Class (Lower Division), and 40 are in the Third-Class category.

In addition, 49 graduands are in the Higher Degrees including 8 Postgraduate Diplomas, 6 Master Degrees in Business Administration, 36 Master of Science, and 1 Doctor of Philosophy Degree.

He added the institution also matriculated over 1,000 new students this year, a feat he described as “a clear vote of confidence from the Nigerian public.”

Prof. Aremu highlighted a series of outstanding achievements recorded by students across faculties, including global academic recognitions, noting that “One of our students, Oni Favour Oluwafemi, was selected among just 50 students worldwide for the prestigious Optica Amplify Immersion Programme in the United States, where he presented a groundbreaking research work on a low-cost neonatal diagnostic tool.”

He also celebrated Iluyemi Bisola, the Best Final Year Accounting Student in Ondo State with a CGPA of 4.87, describing her as “a validation of our robust Accounting programme,” which also secured ICAN reaccreditation this year.

He disclosed that in the past three months, the university conducted professional inductions for 43 Medical Laboratory Scientists, 164 Nurses, 25 Public Health graduates and 31 Engineers, stressing that the institution remains committed to accessible education, highlighting its 100% tuition-free scheme that has produced 319 graduates across 12 programmes, along with several other courses running on between 65% and 80% subsidised scholarships.

Prof. Aremu confirmed recent NUC accreditation visits to seven academic programmes, assuring the university remains committed to producing globally competitive graduates.

He also announced that three Nigerians, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Prince Roland Olawumi Omowa and Mr. Folajimi Akinloye Adetula, will receive honorary doctorate degrees at this year’s convocation.

He explained that two major projects, the Medical Students’ Clinical Hostel and the Academic Building are underway and will be completed early next year.

“Our 300-level MBBS students are expected to move into the new hostel by October 1, 2026, in fulfilment of our commitments to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria,” he said.

Prof. Aremu described the university’s Central Medical Sciences Laboratory as second to none in Nigeria, noting that vice-chancellors from across the country now visit the facility for guidance on best practices.

He said the laboratory is fully equipped with modern scientific tools and safety-compliant installations, making it a reference point in the Nigerian university system.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor also revealed major ICT upgrades, including a new advanced ICT centre, campus-wide Wi-Fi expansion, adoption of Google for Education, full automation of students’ processes and a new 250-seat CBT centre recognised for external examinations.

He announced the successful debut of a College and Faculty Rating System, which he described as the first of its kind among Nigerian universities.

The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences emerged overall winner with a N5 million cash prize.

He also celebrated the promotion of the Pro-Chancellor, Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde, to the rank of full Professor of Law at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the Achievers family.
