SID Initiative Launches Digital Toolkit on SRHR Advocacy for Adolescents, Young People
The Sustainable Impact and Development (SID) Initiative has officially disseminated its newly developed Digital Toolkit and Guide on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Lobbying and Advocacy for Adolescents and Young People Living with HIV and Persons with Disabilities during a one-day stakeholder meeting in Lagos.
The toolkit, developed under the We Lead project and supported by HIVOS, aims to equip youth-led organisations with essential information, strategies, and practical guidelines to strengthen their work in promoting SRHR in Nigeria.
Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) remain a critical area of advocacy and service delivery, particularly for adolescents abd young people.
Youth-led and Youth-serving Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) play a vital role in promoting and implementing SRHR initiatives, yet they often face challenges related to access to structured resources and tools that can enhance their advocacy, programming, and interventions.
To address this challenge, SID Initiative developed a comprehensive SRHR Advocacy Toolkit aimed at equipping youth-led groups and organizations with the knowledge, strategies, and tools needed for effective engagement of these marginalized groups.
The dissemination of this toolkit is an important step toward enhancing the capacity of these organizations, fostering collaboration, and ensuring more coordinated, impactful, and inclusive SRHR interventions across diverse communities.
The dissemination event held on 29th May, 2025, in Lagos brought together over 30 youth-led organizations and civil society organizations.
Participants explored the structure, content, and utility of the 10-chapter digital toolkit, which includes practical guides on SRHR concepts, rights-based advocacy frameworks, digital mobilization, inclusivity strategies, and success stories from communities most impacted by SRHR neglect.
The Executive Director of the Sustainable Impact and Development Initiative, Ms. Elizabeth Talatu Williams, shared that “The toolkit is designed to support adolescent and young people especially those living with HIV and persons with disabilities, to lead transformative change in their communities. Our goal is to improve access to knowledge and tools that drive meaningful, youth-led advocacy for sexual and reproductive health rights.”
She urged participants to effectively utilize the toolkit for advocacy, service delivery, and capacity-building within their communities, integrate it into existing programs, and provide feedback for continuous improvement and wider adoption. The participants commended the initiative, citing the creativity of the activities, the relevance of advocacy strategies, and the potential of the toolkit to drive community-based solutions.
The Sustainable Impact and Development Initiative for Adolescents and Youth is a youth-led non-governmental organization that is dedicated to advancing the sexual reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people in urban and rural communities in Nigeria.
Our vision is to build a society where every young person can reach their full potential free of sexual health challenges, regardless of their socio-economic status.
We Lead is an innovative and far-reaching program that aims to strengthen the influence and position of young women whose sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRH-R) are neglected the most. It targets young women and adolescent girls who: live with a disability; identify as lesbian, bisexual, trans, or intersex (LBTI); live with HIV; and/or are affected by displacement.
