Through My Trumpet, I Carry The Voice Of Nigeria’s Creative Spirit – Joshua Olusanya

Joshua Olusanya, a Nigerian trumpeter and aspirant for the Guinness World Records, has voiced his heartfelt desire to perform for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—believing his trumpet’s voice can echo the untold stories, hopes, and resilience of Nigeria’s creative community.

“I would be honoured to play my trumpet in front of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I believe the sound of my trumpet would touch his heart, showcasing the incredible talent that Nigeria possesses—talent that desperately needs to be supported and celebrated” Olusanya said.

He added, “Through my performance, I hope to convey the struggles of creative individuals in Nigeria and highlight the immense potential for growth in the creative industry. I trust that President Tinubu, with his dedication to youth development and nation-building, would be inspired to support and uplift the creative sector, helping Nigeria’s creative industry reach new global heights.”

Olusanya recently captured national attention after performing for an unbroken 25 hours in Lagos—a marathon effort aimed at securing a place in the Guinness World Records. He said the motivation behind the feat was far more than personal ambition.

“The driving force behind my record-breaking 25-hour trumpet marathon was a passion to revolutionise music education, challenge norms, and champion the recognition of instrumental musicians. This Guinness World Record feat showcases passion, resilience, creativity, and excellence—qualities I hope will inspire a future where instrumental musicians are truly valued.

“For too long, the contributions of instrumentalists have been underestimated. As a visionary and arts advocate, I pushed the limits of endurance, creativity, and innovation. This achievement advocates for accessible music education, the artistry of instrumental musicians, and the growth of the creative industry.”

As a dedicated campaigner for the recognition of instrumental musicians in Nigeria, Olusanya is on a mission to change industry narratives that often place vocalists at the center of attention.

“As The Trumpet Influencer, I’m making a bold statement: instrumental musicians deserve equal recognition and reverence as vocalists. By pushing trumpet playing to the forefront, I’m challenging the status quo in Nigeria’s music industry, where instrumentalists often remain in the background. My mission is to redefine the narrative—showcasing the trumpet’s unique versatility, creativity, and expressiveness—ultimately elevating the profile of instrumental musicians and inspiring a new generation of music enthusiasts.”

Imagining a conversation with Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Olusanya paid tribute to the power of music as both protest and healing.

“I hope The Great Fela Kuti would have said: ‘Hey, I see you’ve been blowing that trumpet for 25 hours straight. Your sound carries the pain and struggle of our people. But remember, real music is not just in the notes—it’s in the message. Don’t just play for the crowd, play for the struggle. Play for the oppressed. Music is a powerful weapon—use it wisely. Stay true to yourself and your art. Keep blowing your trumpet loud and clear, because the world needs to hear your voice.’”

In a world dominated by algorithms and fleeting trends, Olusanya insists on staying rooted in authenticity, using music as a bridge to deeper human connection.

He said, “As The Trumpet Influencer, I aim to redefine influence through authenticity. In a digital world governed by algorithms, I focus on building meaningful connections through the universal language of music. Authenticity is my foundation. It means embracing my true self—imperfections and all. I take creative risks, share my story, and express my identity through the trumpet.”

“By staying true to my purpose and engaging genuinely with people, I create a sound and presence that resonates beyond the digital space. My goal is to make a lasting, positive impact that echoes far and wide”, he stated.

Recalling how he first found his passion for the trumpet and how his sound has evolved over the years, he said, “I vividly remember falling in love with the trumpet over a decade ago. Initially, I explored various instruments, but when I saw the Canadian Brass perform, particularly their rendition of ‘Little Fugue in G minor, I was captivated.

“Thanks to Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya the general overseer of Mountain of fire and miracle ministries who gifted me my first trumpet, I discovered my passion and turned it in into a career. The trumpet’s sound has evolved in my ears over the years, but its resonance remains unchanged! it’s an instrument that brings inspiration and bring the best in me, and I believe it can make the world a better place.”
