Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Eno Honoured As Best Governor of the Year
Governor of Akwa Ibom state, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has bagged the prestigious honour of governor of the Year.
The award was conferred on him in Cairo, Egypt at the just concluded Africa Women Summit, a trailblazing platform that ignites the spirit of empowerment, collaboration, and progress for women across the African continent.
Since inception in 2018, the group has consistently brought together extraordinary women from diverse backgrounds, fields, and countries to foster meaningful connections, drive impactful conversations, and facilitate transformative change.
It has also honoured prominent Africans who have demonstrated zeal to support the development and empowerment of women as well as less privileged persons.
Governor Eno, a Minister in God’s temple is particularly celebrated for his deep commitment to social inclusion and gender equity.
As a leader with a strong moral compass and compassionate governance ethos, he has made women’s empowerment a central pillar of his administration. In collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Office of the First Lady, his government has:
Among other laudable initiatives, he has implemented maternal and child health campaigns on exclusive breastfeeding and nutrition, provided grants and business support to widows and rural women entrepreneurs and facilitated skills acquisition programmes for thousands of women and girls.
The governor has also been lauded by the Kalada Belema Meshack-Hart, founder of Africa Women Summit for strengthening social protection for orphans and vulnerable children across state-run homes, sponsored the Children’s Parliament and marked key commemorative days with impactful initiatives, launched aggressive campaigns against Gender-Based Violence, ensuring both justice and rehabilitation and supported the Nigeria for Women Project and expanded women’s participation in governance and leadership.
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the First Lady designate commended the Summit for finding governor Eno worthy of the highly coveted award, saying he will not take the confidence for granted.
