New Hope for People Who Stutter: The Stutter Awareness Foundation Takes the Spotlight
Raising Voices, Breaking Barriers, and Empoering people who stutter
In a powerful stride towards inclusion and speech equity, the newly launched Stutter Awareness Foundation (SAF) is putting the spotlight on stuttering in Nigeria—a condition often overlooked and misunderstood. The Foundation, founded by Victoria Chidinma Nwanne, is now Nigeria’s first nonprofit solely dedicated to stuttering awareness, advocacy, and support.
The Stutter Awareness Foundation emerges at a time when the need for mental health advocacy, speech support systems, and inclusive educational practices has never been more urgent. With a mission to educate, empower, and elevate people who stutter, SAF is already positioning itself as a national voice for a global issue.
“Stuttering is not just a speech issue—it’s a social justice issue,” said Victoria Chidinma Nwanne, a passionate advocate and changemaker whose experience growing up alongside someone who stutters inspired her to create the Foundation. “Our goal is to challenge the stigma, create safe spaces, and give power back to the voices that are often interrupted or ignored.”
The Foundation aims to:
Promote awareness and acceptance of stuttering in schools, workplaces, and communities.
Advocate for inclusive policies and improved access to speech therapy.
Support youth and adults who stutter through storytelling, peer networks, and empowerment programs.
Partner with speech therapists, educators, and parents to enhance support systems for people who stutter.
With Nigeria as its starting point, SAF also intends to foster cross-cultural collaboration and contribute to global conversations on communication diversity.
Already making waves on social media under the handle @stutterawarenessfoundation, SAF is not just raising awareness— at stutterfoundation.org we are building a movement.
If you stutter, know someone who does, or simply care about inclusion and dignity, the Stutter Awareness Foundation is here for you. Visit Instagram: @stutterawarenessfoundation or email stutterstfoundation@gmail.com to get involved.
Together, we can ensure that every voice counts—and is heard.
