Premiere of ‘DINA’ Sparks Movement to Protect Adolescent Girls

By Rebecca Ejifoma

DINA, a film produced by Wilson Ukhurebor, is set to premiere on April 10, 2025, at the Pefti Film Institute in Lagos to address the critical issue of sexual violence against young girls.

The movie also aims to raise awareness and spark conversations to end this problem.

Ukhurebor, who is also the President of the International Child Safety Report Initiative (ICSR), describes the project as a “call to action through film” and urges the government to act as a “protective shield” for vulnerable children.

He emphasised: “DINA is more than just a movie; it is a movement” that challenges society to take responsibility and work together to ensure children’s safety and rights.

The film has received endorsement from the Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development (MYSD) and is part of a larger initiative that includes empowerment activities for young girls.

Following the premiere, DINA will be screened in 10 cinemas across Lagos State to reach more students and educate them about the issue.

As part of the campaign, a special screening for school students and key stakeholders will take place on April 10, marking the beginning of efforts to amplify the film’s message.

The project aims to drive awareness and action against sexual violence, encouraging media, NGOs, and other stakeholders to join hands in combating this societal issue.

The movie amplifies the need for stronger protective structures, policies, and community interventions to safeguard girls from harm.

Also speaking, the Head, Public Affairs for the Lagos State Sexual Violence Agency, Adejoke Ladebogini, commended the film.

She stressed the need for everyone to engage in combating gender-based violence which aligns with the state government’s ongoing efforts to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), particularly rape.

Ladebogini reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance stance against rape, emphasiding that the crime’s severity should be considered comparable to murder.

She expressed that the state is fully committed to eradicating all forms of sexual and gender-based violence from the state.

Ladebogini echoes the urgent call for protecting girls from all forms of violence, as powerfully depicted in Ukhurebor’s film DINA, emphasising the critical need for action both in Lagos State and across Nigeria
